The Iron Clothes Make the Iron Woman

I don’t always like to toot my own horn, but I have to say I’m looking fabulous lately.

I mean, have you seen my new superhero avatar? It’s alright – I know it might have been a little awkward for you to bring up because I’m smokin’ hot (which is why I’m happy to do it!). Iron Man looks okay in his movies, but check me out in that armor! I make metal look good. The best part? I didn’t have to cut back on my carbs or even go running for those nice new legs!

Superheroes of ShippingI wonder about that a lot… What do lady superheroes do to fit into those costumes? I mean, Catwoman probably burns a lot of calories running around on rooftops and climbing buildings, but Wonder Woman? Supergirl? They just sort of float around and still manage to look flawless.

Maybe that’s just part of being a superhero – eat all the cheesecake and bagels you want and still look great in a pair of star-spangled spankies. Heck, if eating what you want and never gaining weight is an option for a superpower, I think I’d like that one. Flying and super-strength are secondary, if you ask me.

And speaking of flight – I’m not sure that I’d want to fly around above everyone’s head in a skirt. Seems a little risky! I can just imagine Supergirl swooping in to save the day – “Look, it’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s – going to be all over the internet by tomorrow!” Sure, I guess it’s not any skimpier than what cheerleaders and ice skaters wear, but at least Superman gets blue tights to wear under his visible underwear.

I did a little research, and it seems like Marvel and DC Comics have gotten smart with redesigning some of their superheroes lately. Batgirl and Spiderwoman have been sporting some cool leather jackets in addition to that one article of clothing seemingly elusive to all superheroes – pants. They’ve even gotten a sweet upgrade in the shoe department, trading stiletto high heels for flat or combat boots, which are far more practical, not to mention comfortable.

Though part of me hopes that comic book artists don’t fully sacrifice fashion for practicality. Superhero costumes should be fun, and as the saying says, if you’ve got it, flaunt it! Plus, if we put the ladies in practical costumes, then someone’s got to show some skin, right?
