Surviving the Charger Wars

charger warsDoes your household know about the Charger Wars? No, it’s not the next big summer blockbuster movie franchise – the Charger Wars are the ongoing battles at my house over cell phone chargers.

It might be the same in your household – each person has the charger that came with their phone, a travel charger, an extra charger for vacation, the replacement charger that was purchased when they forgot the travel charger on vacation…and yet, somehow, no one can every find a charger when they need one!

The wars part comes in when a charger unexpectedly breaks and someone ‘borrows’ another family member’s charger.

Or when one girl comes home from a weekend away without her charger and instantly goes for her sister’s.

Or when you’re at the airport with your family, and you forgot yours, but you don’t want to pay $20 at the newsstand for a new one (not that I speak from experience…ahem).

My daughters go through similar battles every morning over hairbrushes. With two long-haired daughters, no one gets out of the house in the morning without extensive hair brushing. And of course, no brush is ever around when they need one.

Much like the phone chargers – we buy duplicates for home, school, gym bags, travel – and still, neither girl can ever find a hairbrush when she needs it. I’m always asking them: “Where did you have it last? How do you keep losing them when you have so many?”

And they remind me of how many cell phone chargers I’ve misplaced. I can’t win.

There are so many wonderful things about a house full of family, but by far one of the most useful things? You can borrow their stuff when you misplace your own.
