Life Lessons From Football

Like many offices across North America, the “water cooler chat” at Matchmaker Logistics often turns to football. I’m a Giants fan, but our Carrier Services Rep, Mary Nicholas, roots for the Steelers. This week, when I spoke to Mary, I couldn’t resist a little good-natured teasing!

No matter which team you root for, I’m sure you will agree that football is a lot like life. Nobody illustrated this better than the legendary Vince Lombardi who was a fountain of quotes that applied to both success in the game and success in life. For example:

“The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you’re willing to pay the price.”

“If it doesn’t matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score?”

“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.”

“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.”

And of course, the reply Mary borrowed from Vince to respond to my ribbing: “We didn’t lose the game; we just ran out of time.”
