Small Potatoes

What I say is that, if a fellow really likes potatoes, he must be a pretty decent sort of fellow.” ~ A. A. Milne, Creator of Winnie-the-Pooh

With two young daughters in the house, I get my fill of Disney movies, storybooks, and silly kid jokes: “Dad! Why did the potato cross the road? It saw a fork up ahead!” Kids love corny.

And, at Matchmaker Logistics we love what one of our customers called “small potatoes”. When other shipping giants couldn’t help out this ‘little guy’, we’re proud to say we were able to step in. It’s just who we are and what we do. My girls get this concept too thanks to Dr. Seuss and Horton Hears a Who: “A person’s a person, no matter how small.” Here’s how our customer explained it:

Restoring old things is my passion. I’ve restored vintage motorcycles, cars, and most recently, a 1965 John Deere tractor. I purchased the tractor online from a seller in Indiana without questioning how I would get it to my home in Wilmington, NC. When I called the most well-known shipping service in the country to inquire about a freight rate, I was floored by the price they quoted. It was $300 more than what I paid to purchase the tractor! A second quote from an independent shipping company in Indiana wasn’t much more palatable. I was about to ask friends in the Midwest to take on the unwelcome responsibility of towing a vintage tractor more than 600 miles, when a buddy of mine offered another solution-he suggested I call a member of his local Rotary International chapter, Bob Skane of Matchmaker Logistics.

Working with Bob was refreshingly easy; he had just three questions: “What are you shipping? Where is the item? Where does it need to be delivered?” Better yet, Matchmaker’s rate was nearly half the lowest quote I had found on my own. After supplying Bob with the initial information, all I had to do was greet my newest vintage beauty as she was unloaded here in Wilmington.

I was so impressed with Matchmaker Logistics’ customer service and pricing, I called them again just a few weeks later to handle a professional request. A university professor, I needed a pallet of scientific equipment shipped to my lab. Once again, Matchmaker delivered with efficient service and a very reasonable rate. Moving just one pallet or an individual’s hobby tractor may be viewed as “small potatoes” by other companies, but Matchmaker made me feel like a VIP client. ~ Brooks Avery, Individual Customer
