This year, as we celebrate the Christmas season, we also mourn the senseless loss of innocent lives in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. As I stand in church, grateful to be singing “O Little Town of Bethlehem” with my daughters by my side, I will be thinking of the people of the little town of Newtown.
It’s impossible to comprehend such a horrific act of violence, especially at a time that is meant to be filled with merriment, hope, love, and peace. Yet, as one wise soul once said: “Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as it about opening our hearts.” That’s why our team pledged to participate in the 26 acts of kindness movement to remember the victims of the shooting. You can see how we’ve gotten started on our Facebook page. We hope that you will join us.
In that spirit, I leave you with this quote as my final “Thought” for 2012:
Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect. ~Oren Arnold
