My Alter Ego

Matchmaker AvatarsBionic vision. Supersonic hearing. And “Spidey sense.” Sound like the superpowers your Mom had when you were growing up? At Matchmaker Logistics, it is the Year of the
Superhero and mothers definitely top the list. Read last year’s Mother’s Day blog post where kids talked about moms and their “magic” superpowers.

At Matchmaker, we’ve also been getting in touch with our inner superheroes. To accompany our sales presentation, we’ve created our own superhero avatars. In the online world, an avatar is a graphical representation of one’s self. Some people use their own photos; others use cartoons, animals, or graphic symbols to depict their online alter egos. In other words, if the real Kent Clark had an avatar, it might be an image of Superman. What did we select and why? Read on:

I chose Batman because instead of real superpowers, he uses technology, gadgets, and
his brains to beat the bad guys. I’d also really love to drive to work every day in the Batmobile!

Matchmaker AvatarsMary (Vice-President): “Like Ironman (or Ironwoman, in this case), I’d love to be able to put on a suit and fly from meeting to meeting, giving our customers the fastest service in the world. I also love Ironman’s determination and perseverance – he never lets anyone stand in his way, and when my customers’ needs are at stake, neither do I!”

Matchmaker AvatarsPam (Sr. Carrier Sales Rep): “Wonder Woman has always been an inspiration to me, and I choose to channel her in the workplace. Her Lasso of Truth represents my honesty with our customers and carriers in every situation, and her tiara’s telepathic powers help me remember to listen closely to the needs of our shippers and carriers.”

Matchmaker AvatarsShelly (Office Manager): “For my avatar, I went with Hawk Girl because her super-acute vision would help me keep watch over our books and company numbers like a hawk.”

Matchmaker AvatarsTammy (Project Manager): “The Incredible Hulk has two sides. He’s gentle and kind when he’s Bruce Banner, and powerful and strong when he’s hulked out. In business, it’s best to be patient – at least until there’s no other choice. Sometimes you need to show your strength in order to get things done. Choosing She-Hulk as my avatar helps me remember that.”

Matchmaker AvatarsKendra (Carrier Sales Rep): “Like Batman, Catwoman doesn’t have any traditional superpowers. She’s just very skilled with certain tools and weapons. Like Catwoman, I tap into my skills in order to tie down and tackle my problems. But, I always use my powers for good, instead of evil.”

Matchmaker AvatarsChrista (Carrier Sales Rep): “I chose She-Ra as my avatar. She might look feminine, but watch out – she’s also fierce! Like She-Ra, I’m a bit of a girly-girl, but that doesn’t mean I can’t defend myself and my customers against whatever challenges come our way.”

Kiss your Mom and embrace your alter ego this weekend,
