This past weekend, our area received nearly 20 inches of rain, which meant many of us were watching the local news, tuning in to see just how bad the flooding was at our area beaches and downtown Riverfront. We also needed to know about street closures and school and business delays, which meant we spent quite a bit of time watching local reporters weather the storm.
As video clips like this one were posted on social media, you can be sure that the recent addition to the Matchmaker Logistics team was thanking her lucky stars that she was safe and dry at home, instead of wet and soggy, reporting on the streets.
Meet Carrier Sales Rep Caraline Martin. The daughter of a retired Army colonel, Caraline was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Like most Army kids, while growing up, she lived ‘all over’ – from Georgia to Germany to Montgomery County, Maryland (just outside of Washington DC). But ask her where’s she from, and Caraline will tell you where her heart resides: Charleston, SC, her Dad’s hometown.
In college, Caraline majored in Mass Communications. After graduation, 
she moved to Wilmington, NC to be closer to her family. She got a job at a local television station where she started working behind the scenes with camera, audio and web production.
It wasn’t long before Caraline was asked to step in front of the camera, first as a morning traffic reporter and later as a morning reporter. Every day was an adventure: donning a turkey suit to promote a local food drive; getting her first flu shot on the air; rushing to the scene of a fatal fire; interviewing circus performers. Once, she even caught a police officer speeding on camera!
A homebody at heart, when Caraline married her husband, Ryan, she decided to seek out a career with more stability. We’re glad she found Matchmaker, and even though we can do some pretty wacky things around here, we promise not to make her dress up like a turkey! A superhero? Well, maybe…
