A Very Long Walk

They say that sitting is the new smoking. As a I write this, I am, of course, sitting. And, chances are, as you read this, you’re sitting too. I know one person, however, who is currently walking – sixty miles this weekend. If that’s not enough to impress you, read on:

Shelly Perusse walkingMeet Shelly Perusse, a part-time Administrative Assistant at Matchmaker Logistics. Shelly and I go way back. We’re family. Not relatives, but family. And there is a difference. Shelly’s also a hardcore NY Giants fan, so what’s not to love?

At Matchmaker, Shelly’s superhero avatar is Superwoman and no wonder–she can truly do it all! She was an indispensable employee at the same company in Connecticut for 32 years. Recently, she decided to move to this area to be closer to family. Selling her house just one week after putting it on the market really sealed the deal.

She boldly took on the move and a complete lifestyle change. Shelly now splits her time between working behind the scenes at Matchmaker and making the most out of life by pursuing myriad interests. Reading, traveling, meeting new friends, baking, connecting with family – those are just a few of the ways she dives headfirst into crafting a full life.

When she arrived in Wilmington, Shelly only knew her family members. What did she do to make friends? She joined a few groups on MeetUp.com. Fast-forward one year and Shelly has created a great community for herself and expanded her interests once more. One friend is starting a business mixing and selling essential oils, so Shelly is helping out at festivals and farmer’s markets while learning about them too. So, should it surprise me that Shelly decided to walk sixty miles in San Diego this weekend to raise money for Susan G. Komen? Not at all!

While I made a donation to support her epic walk, I’ll be sticking a little closer to home this weekend. But, I couldn’t help sharing some great quotes about the benefits of walking for the body, the mind and the soul:
