Getting Spooky With It

Halloween weekend is one of the best weekends of the year, if you ask me! Candy by the bucket, costume parties, incredible people-watching, and a great excuse to give everyone a good, fun, harmless scare.Spooky

In preparation, last weekend my wife asked my daughter, Chloe, and I to go out and grab some Halloween decorations. I couldn’t believe my luck – carte blanche to let my inner Freddy Krueger out to play!

Have you seen some of these modern Halloween decorations? Gone are the days of posterboard bats stuck to the wall, or a gauzy balloon ghost hanging from the front yard tree. Today’s Halloween decorations are inflatable, electric, animatronic, and terrifying!

Chloe and I spent hours pressing buttons to make skeletons jump and bats flap. From full-size leaping zombies to enormous spiders to spooky radios that broadcast ghostly voices from the beyond, I’m not the only one who has to have noticed – Halloween decor has stepped it up!

So, after a full afternoon of hunting for a haunt, we brought home something small and tasteful – a six-foot-tall cackling witch. Among other things, of course!

The missus was amused, but perhaps a bit befuddled. I’m not sure why! Sending me out to buy Halloween decorations was akin to sending Clark Griswold out to pick up a Christmas branch. It could have been worse, I told her – they were all out of 20-foot inflatable Grim Reapers!

It seems I’m not the only one who likes to pull out the stops for trick-or-treaters. Check out some of these over-the-top houses decorated by homeowners who are clearly winning at Halloween!
