We’ve all had times in life when we’re behind the eight ball, but our newest team member, Carrier Sales Rep Jennifer Brown, had no idea that a game of pool would change her life and her career!
Born and raised in Hueytown, Alabama, Jennifer is a small town girl with big talent. She went to school on a music scholarship, while working in the retail and hospitality sectors. After a period of personal upheaval which included caring for a sick grandparent, Jennifer needed a change. Jennifer didn’t even know how to hold a pool stick, but her best friend convinced her to join a pool league. Jennifer laughs: “I didn’t even know pool leagues existed!” But, for Jennifer, the eight ball proved to be magic. Within a few short months, she met her boyfriend, Micheal, a train conductor. Then, she met Mary Nicholas, Carrier Sales Representative, who recruited Jennifer to join the Matchmaker Logistics team.
The two reps in our Alabama office have a lot in common; not only do they play on pool leagues, they’re also both huge football fans. “Roll Tide!!” shouts Jennifer, a diehard University of Alabama fan. (Read more about Jennifer here).
“Make sure you tell them I beat Mary at pool this past Friday night”, Jennifer adds. Mary is quick to reply: “I scratched on the eight ball, so you won by default!” The goal in a pool league is to win enough games to advance to the playoffs in Las Vegas. If Mary and Jennifer, our Alabama-based dynamic duo, make it to Vegas, it’s sure to be a case of Double Jeopardy!
Speaking of Double Jeopardy, I can’t resist sharing this joke:
A league of old-timers were playing their weekly game of Double Jeopardy (8-ball and 9-ball played simulataneously on 2 separate tables), when they decided that for Christmas they would love nothing more than to spend the afternoon at the pool hall, playing games without argument from their spouses.
Christmas Day arrives and there they are, all gathered ’round their favorite tables. The 1st guy says, “Boy, this game cost me a fortune! I bought my wife a huge diamond ring. She can’t take her eyes off it; that’s how I snuck out of the house!”
The 2nd player says, “I spent a fortune too. My wife is at home planning the cruise I gave her. She is up to her eyeballs in brochures.” The 3rd guy says, “Well, my wife is at home reading the manual for her brand new car.” The 4th chimes in: “I bought my new girlfriend a $9,000 wardrobe. She’s trying on all those new outfits right now.”
They all look to the last player on the team, and he is staring at them as if they have lost their minds. “I can’t believe you went to such great lengths just to play a few rounds of pool. I slapped my wife on the rear and said: “Hey babe, you wanna fool around, or should I go play pool with the guys?” She replied: “Don’t forget your sweater.”
Whether you kiss your spouse or the 8-ball this weekend, have a great time!
