After having worked 13 hours last Wednesday, I was too tired for a big birthday celebration, but my husband and my kids still made my evening feel special. Although I shared my nervousness about receiving yet another birthday gift “dud”, my husband dazzled me with tickets to the Alabama-Colorado State Game this past weekend and three new charms for my Pandora bracelet, including a Pittsburgh Steelers charm!
I’ve been a Steelers’ fan since the age of six. When all of the other girls in my class were getting Princess-themed apparel for Christmas, my uncle gave me a Pittsburgh Steelers nightgown. He gave my sister a Dallas Cowboys nightgown. Those have been our respective teams ever since.
My abiding love for the Steelers means I live with more than a few football rivalries: my husband supports the Eagles (even though I make him drive around in a truck with a Steelers license plate!); my boss, Bob, roots for the Giants; and my friend, Joyce, cheers for the Bengals.
Although we have competing loyalties, everyone still manages to live ‘happily ever after’. I even went so far as calling Joyce last Monday morning and congratulating her in advance of the Steelers-Bengals game. Let’s face it: so far this year, the Steelers are playing more like frogs than princes.
Still, it will never change my answer to: “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the best NFL team of them all?” Even Snow White agrees:
The Seven Dwarfs were marching through the forest one day when they fell in a deep, dark ravine. Snow White, who was following along, peered over the edge of the steep chasm and called out to the fallen dwarfs. From the depths of the dark hole a voice returned, “The New York Giants are Super Bowl Championship contenders.”
Snow White thought to herself, “Thank God… at least Dopey survived!”
