“Family Reunions”

This weekend, the Matchmaker Logistics team will be celebrating the holidays at our annual Christmas party. The entire team will reunite at the Wilmington, NC headquarters for a strategic planning retreat that ends with a dinner and a “Dirty Santa” gift exchange. Our team has grown this year and it will be great to have a few new faces as well as a familiar face around our table.

That new familiar face will belong to Tammy Brown, a Matchmaker Logistics employee celebrating a reunion of a different sort. You see, Tammy worked for us from 2006-2008 and now she’s back with us again! You can read about Tammy here, learn why she left, and why I called her every year on the anniversary of her departure asking her to come back!

Tammy finally acquiesced, and she’s now reunited with the Matchmaker family. She says: “If Bob is the Matchmaker dad, and Mary is the Matchmaker mom, then I’m the eccentric old aunt! I’m delighted to be back with my professional family; it’s a joy to work with this team.”

It is true that we call our weekly meetings “Family Meetings”. And, as far as corporate cultures go, I’m proud to say that ours is based on positivity, teamwork, and encouragement. But any “family” sees the best and the worst of each other, including bad moods, annoying habits, and irksome quirks. I think comedian Jeff Foxworthy may have said it best: “If you ever start feeling like you have the goofiest, craziest, most dysfunctional family in the world, all you have to do is go to a state fair. Because five minutes at the fair, you’ll be going, ‘You know, we’re alright. We are dang near royalty.'” Or, as the old saying goes: “Our family puts the ‘fun’ in dysfunctional!”

This Saturday evening, we’ll have a great time (we always do!) celebrating each other and our accomplishments this year. But, as we prepare for our Dirty Santa gift exchange, I can’t help but wonder if we’ll see any of these ecard Office Coupons in the mix:

Party with your family this weekend,

~Bob
