Forget hearts and flowers and chocolate. At Matchmaker Logistics, we’ve discovered that we’re not a very romantic lot, at least in the traditional sense of the word. When it comes to sweeping, grandiose gestures worthy of a blockbuster romantic comedy, well…we’ve got nothin’. And, I’m certainly not like Bob Cary, the photographer (above) who traveled the country in a pink tutu just to make his wife laugh during chemo. As rock icon Meatloaf sings: “I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that!”
Although you’ll never catch me in a pink tutu, I do make sure to play the song “Rodeo Clowns” by Jack Johnson whenever my wife attends one of my band’s gigs (it’s her favorite.) You will also find me making breakfast for the kids every morning, handling the trash and recycling, and carrying out my duties as “Chief Pooper Scooper” and “King of the Dishwasher.” My wife tells me that ladies love a guy who helps out at home; see what CNN.com says here.
The women of Matchmaker Logistics agree that little gestures go a long way. Kendra and Christa appreciate how well their men take care of them when they’re sick. In fact, Christa’s husband proposed to her while she was “sick as a dog, in bed, with no makeup on!” Pam’s husband won her heart by pumping her gas and washing her car. And Shelly appreciates that Scott always drives whenever they go out together.
Mary and Christa and Shelly all agree that holding hands and giving (or getting) daily kisses are keys to their successful romances. Mary writes: “Dale still wants to hold my hand while driving, at home watching TV, or while we’re out shopping. We have been together for 19 years and it feels like we are still on our honeymoon.”
What do men find romantic? Tammy’s husband will tell you the answer is “White Castle Burgers”. One year, Tammy (who can’t stand White Castle), made a reservation for the famous White Castle Valentine’s Day Dinner. She got all dressed up and surprised her husband by taking him to the fast food joint which is transformed on Valentine’s Day with white tablecloths, candles, flowers and a special Valentine’s Day menu. Tammy says: “To this day he will tell everyone it is the best Valentine he has ever received.”
It seems, that as Buffy the Vampire Slayer says: “Love makes you do the wacky.” Robert Fulghum put it this way: “We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”
