These days, you rarely hear about neighbors chatting over the fence, but that’s how Mary found her job with Matchmaker Logistics! Her stepmother lived next door to a Skane. The neighbor recommended Mary when she heard Matchmaker was hiring, and the rest is history. Mary, a native of Wilmington, NC, started as a dispatcher in July of 1999.
More than a decade later, she’s not just a leader on the Matchmaker team, she’s “family”. Mary explains: “I’ve been with Matchmaker so long, Bob feels more like my brother than my boss!” Mary graduated from Cape Fear Community College’s Dale Carnegie Course and is also a Certified Transportation Broker. She is Vice-President, overseeing company operations.
When her husband was transferred for his job, Mary took advantage of the Matchmaker Logistics flexible location benefit. She works in the Alabama office, but she always makes it back to Wilmington for the annual holiday Christmas party!
When she’s not managing a full plate at work, Mary’s managing a full house. She and her husband, Dale, have three children spanning in age from 8 to 24 years old. They also have a cat and a dog. The family enjoys camping, fishing, bowling, football and baseball, and Mary and Dale play together on two different pool leagues. A Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Mary and Bob share a long-standing Giants-Steelers sports rivalry that keeps the entire office entertained. Football aside, Mary says: “Our company’s team spirit means a lot to me. We have a unified team that celebrates every win together. It’s just one more reason I love my job!”
