Implications of the Snowe – Klobuchar Bill S.3483.IS

Or, the Story of the Genie and the Truck Driver  A truck driver was tooling down the highway one afternoon when all of a sudden he heard a “pop.” He steered the rig onto the shoulder, got out of his truck, and walked around it to check his tires.  Under one of the tires, he saw a bottle.  The driver picked it up and wiped off the label, when a very old genie appeared. The genie said, “Man, I’m too old for this! You get one wish — not three — just one.” The

Partnerships in Challenging Times

Matchmaker President Jim Skane describes how the worst of economic times have brought out the best in his partnerships. One of the intangible benefits of challenging times is the strengthening of relationships. While in a state of success and abundance, it is easy to become complacent, seemingly self-sufficient, and perhaps focused on individual achievement. Matchmaker, like many others, has been impacted by the economic downturn. We have been forced to make difficult choices and to reevaluate how we provide value to our customers and to each other. Beneficially, our partnerships both externally and internally have

Matchmaker stands by our commitment to the community. We recently made donations to the following non-profit agencies: Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry (WARM) completes home repairs for low income homeowners, mostly widows and disabled individuals. Good Shepherd Center feeds the hungry, shelters the homeless, and provides support to those in crisis. Their shelter is open every day of the year. The staff

In 2004, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created a great tool to allow both asset and non-asset based companies to contribute

Trucking Capacity Shortage

It is hard to imagine a truck shortage when trucks seem so abundant lately. However, the seeds of such a shortage are being planted now and those responsible for shipping freight should prepare. 2008 saw record numbers of trucking company failures. With the economy expected to stay soft in 2009 it is likely that many more trucking companies will be shutting their doors. There are simply not enough loads available for current truck capacity. There is a significant difference between this industry crisis and others caused by recession in the past. Russia and other
